Attorney, former judge, entrepreneur, and public speaker
Brent is a young litigator with an already impressive range of experience, serving as a judge for three years prior to opening his own law firm. Two parts attorney and one part entrepreneur, Brent is highly driven and carries a truckload of optimism.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Brent frequently tells people he learned Spanish by kissing Latinas. He actually mastered Spanish while serving a two-year mission for the LDS church in Los Angeles, CA. Brent is a one-man repository of legal knowledge and boyish jokes.
While Brent does have a slightly dorky love of the law, he'd still prefer to tell you about his wife and seven children. He is, in fact, a man of many talents - he's incredibly hard-working, smart, reliable, and valuable to his clients.
If there's one thing for which Brent is famous, apart from having seven children, it is for belying the conventional belief that attorneys are boring, dishonest, money-hungry, and stuffy. Brent puts an exclamation mark on that sentence.
The daughter of immigrant parents, Yulisa is fluent in English, Spanish, and happiness, which she distributes (freely) in the office. She's eternally cheerful and always one step ahead, acting faster than we can think.
Caring for clients with extreme efficiency and a smile, Yulisa is smart, fast, and sincere. Extremely complex cases hold no fears for her, she can organize your socks off and you'll just want to say "thank you." Her drive, determination, and immense dedication to hard work continue to impress us.
Legal Assistant and Accountant
We're so glad to have Brent's mom in the office. Deeply knowledgeable about client management and money, she is the queen of the office.
But that's just half the story. In her life outside of work, Marlena is a wife of 40 years, mother to three, and grandmother to 11 awesome grandchildren. Her abilities, interests, and easy charm make her the perfect example of balance.
AREAS OF FOCUS
We bring a lot of smiles and smarts to the table.
Probate, Estate Planning, and Elder Law
Probate, estate planning, and elder law is about preparing for retirement, living it, and leaving it.
We love working in this field. Our turnaround is extremely fast, as it has to be, and most of our advice can be summed up in one minute or less. And in those instances of complexity, we are quite good at boiling it down to "Yes, you can do that" or "No, that's a very bad idea."
There are plenty of attorneys who can answer questions in these fields, but Brent Helms has actually ruled on hundreds of these very types of cases as a judge.
It's well known in the U.S. that you're innocent until proven guilty. That's where we come in.
We provide competent representation in criminal law matters in municipal and state courts throughout Alabama.
From family-based to corporate-based immigration law, we do it all--and honestly. The result of working with us is money not just saved, but more wisely spent.
General Business, Property, and Labor Law
We start by focusing first on resolution and then on going to court. It's a client-centered rather than invoice-centered approach.
We're not naive. We understand that not every family law case will result in a beneficial agreement between the parties. So, as soon as we smell trouble, we have the firepower to unload on the other side and we're not afraid to do so.
OUR CLIENT-CENTERED PRICING MODELS
All of our pricing models are designed to give you budget certainty and are calculated to equal the value we provide to you.
RETAINERS & CONTINGENCY FEES
This type of pricing model offers a fixed monthly fee covering all the legal work we do on your behalf, including going to court.
RETAINER FOR PREPARATION FOR COURT
This type of pricing model offers a fixed monthly fee covering all the legal work we do on your behalf during the preparation phase of litigation. In periods where nothing happens, we don't charge you. This pricing model also excludes the most expensive aspect of litigation, going to court. In cases that are likely to settle out of court, this is your best option.
PER-DAY IN COURT RETAINER
Unless you choose a global retainer, if we are unable to settle your case or in the event you hire us simply to represent you in or accompany you to court, we charge a per-day in court fixed retainer.
This type of pricing model offers a fixed percentage fee we charge at the conclusion of your matter. Contingency fees are regulated by Alabama laws and regulations and only available in certain types of legal matters. If applicable in your legal matter, we will let you know.
FIXED, HOURLY, & CAPPED FEES
This type of pricing model offers a fixed fee for one-time or transactional work. We always stick to the fixed fee we quote.
FIXED SPECIFIC (OR LIMITED SCOPE) FEE
This type of pricing model offers a fixed fee for each specific task you wish for us to complete.
This type of pricing model is offered to those clients who do not want to pay a retainer or fixed fee, or whose cases are so complex (or different) that we cannot determine an equitable retainer or flat fee. Our normal hourly rate is $200 to $300 an hour, depending on the type, location, and complexity of the case.
We sometimes quote a capped fee, which we agree not to exceed. For example, if we handle a case on an hourly basis, we may cap the total amount you'll pay. This prevents the other side from "bleeding you dry" and winning the case because you don't have enough money to pay your attorney.
ONE-HOUR CONSULTATION FEE
We charge $100 for a one-hour consultation.
